Spicy Yoghurt services

Spicy Yoghurt operates this website, including the games, apps and tools that run on it. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal information we receive from users of the site and apps.

Who is responsible for your data

Spicy Yoghurt, based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, is responsible for the processing of your personal data as described on this page. You can reach us at info@spicyyoghurt.com.

How we collect and use your data

Here's what we collect and what we use it for:

  • Cookies and similar technologies - Cookies are small text files stored on the device you use our services on. We don't set any cookies of our own. The cookies on this site come from the analytics and ad-serving technologies described below. You can delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Some of our games, apps and demos save your progress or your work in your browser's local storage, a place on your device where a website can keep data. They keep that data in your browser and never send it to us. The comment sections use local storage too, as described below.
  • Analytics technologies - We use Google Analytics to collect information about how you use our services and on what device, such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your browser, device type and approximate location. Google Analytics places cookies for this as soon as you visit the site. Their names start with _ga. We only use this information to optimize our own services.
  • Ad-serving technologies - We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve appropriate advertising to you and help track results and measure effectiveness. They may use these cookies to show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. On your first visit, a consent message from Google asks whether you agree to this. Personalized ads are only shown with your consent. If you don't agree, you'll still see ads, but they won't be personalized. You can also turn off personalized ads at any time in Google's Ads Settings.
  • Comment sections - You can leave a comment on our tutorials, news articles and tools without an account. We store the name and comment you enter, together with the page and the time. We check every comment before it appears. Once it's published, the name and comment you entered are visible to everyone. To prevent spam, we also store a hashed version of your IP address for 30 days; we never store the IP address itself. Hashing turns your IP address into a code that looks random. The same IP address always produces the same code, so we can limit how many comments one address posts and remove all spam from that address at once. The code itself doesn't reveal your IP address. The comment sections don't use cookies and don't load anything from other companies. After you post a comment, your browser keeps a key for it in its local storage, so you can still edit or delete the comment in that browser while it waits for approval. We store only a hashed version of this key with your comment, never the key itself.
  • Email - If you email us, we use your email address and your message only to answer you.
  • Server logs - As with any website, our web server processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the site to you and keep it secure.

Legal basis

Here's the legal basis for each use of your data:

  • Analytics - Our legitimate interest in understanding how our services are used, so we can improve them.
  • Personalized ads - Your consent, given through the consent message. Some ad partners process data on the basis of their legitimate interest. You can object to that in the same message, under Manage options.
  • Comment sections - Our legitimate interest in letting visitors discuss our content, and in keeping the comment sections free of spam.
  • Email and server logs - Our legitimate interest in answering your questions and in running a working, secure website.

Who we share your data with

We don't sell your personal information. We share the bare minimum with the third parties that provide our analytics and ads: Google and its advertising partners. You can see the full list of ad partners in Google's consent message. Our hosting provider processes the server logs and stores the comments on our behalf.

Transfers outside the European Union

Google is based in the United States, so data collected by Google may be processed there. Google participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognizes as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data.

How long we keep your data

How long we keep your data depends on what it's for:

  • Analytics - The Google Analytics cookies expire after two years at most. Google Analytics keeps data about the pages you visit and the actions you take for two months, and data linked to the Analytics cookies for 14 months.
  • Ads - Google and its partners keep ad data for the periods they set. You can find these in the consent message under Manage options.
  • Comment sections - A published comment stays on the site until we remove it, or until you ask us to. Comments we don't publish are deleted within 30 days. The hashed version of your IP address is deleted after 30 days. The key in your browser stops working once the comment is approved. Your browser removes it when the comment is approved or deleted, or after 30 days at the latest.
  • Email - We keep emails for as long as needed to answer your question and handle any follow-up.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@spicyyoghurt.com. Where we process data based on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. To change your ad preferences or withdraw your consent, delete the cookies for this site in your browser. The consent message will then appear again on your next visit. To opt out of Google Analytics, block cookies for this site in your browser. If you only delete them, Google Analytics will place new ones the next time you visit. To have a comment changed or removed, email us at info@spicyyoghurt.com and tell us which page the comment is on and the name you used.

Third-party services

Our website and services may contain advertising or links to third-party services. If you use those services or click on those links, including an advertisement, you might leave our website and go to the site you selected. If you visit a third-party website, you should consult that site's or service's privacy policy.

Security

The security of your personal information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy, for example when our services change. The latest version is always on this page, and the date at the top shows when it was last updated.
